About Flexure Engineering
Executive Team
We are like-minded, entrepreneurial spirits who have come together to
run an aerospace engineering company committed to a positive triple
bottom line – people, planet, and profit.
We share common vision, values and purpose and are focused on mission
and results.
We also believe in giving ourselves and our engineers the competitive
advantages gained through mastery of effective interpersonal
communication skills, leadership and change management, and being high
performance individuals on results-oriented teams.
Gregory Scharfstein
Chief Engineer & Founder
In 2000, I traveled south to Baltimore, MD where I attended The Johns
Hopkins University (JHU) and received a Bachelor of Science in
Mechanical Engineering. I then started working for the University with
the Instrument Development Group (IDG), small groups of engineers that
built scientific instruments from scratch for professors in the
Department of Physics and Astronomy and around the world. As I worked
for the IDG, I received my Masters in Mechanical Engineering by attend
the JHU Engineering School in 2004.
After over eight and a half years with the IDG, I decided to take a
huge step in my life. I left my job and started my own engineering
company. In January 2009, Flexure, LLC became a reality.
Today, NASA is our biggest client. Our engineers are currently working
on the James Webb Space Telescope and the NIRcam instrument at the
Goddard Space Flight Center and at Lockheed Martin in CA.
Russell Cox
CEO
For me, it has been a long road
from my grade school days of watching the Apollo missions from my home
in Houston, Texas, to being the CEO of a startup aerospace firm that is
currently supporting the James Webb Space Telescope and will soon be
supporting our return to the Moon and expeditions to the Lunar Poles.
I wrote my first business plan in 1981 for an aerospace consulting
concept for the Shuttle Getaway Special program. In 1983-4, I spent two
years in Silicon Valley creating a computer startup, Oak
Multi-Computer. In the years that followed, I returned to school and
was awarded two Bachelor of Science degrees, in Physics and
Mathematics, from the University of Texas at Austin. Now I have come
full circle and am the CEO of an Aerospace startup supporting the James
Webb Space Telescope.
Bonnie Dubrow
Head of Marketing, Training & Events
I’m a member of the executive team and in charge of Marketing,
Training and Events. Being part of the Flexure team is a “dream
come true.”
I’ve been living on the Space Coast since 1980. I often wondered
why, as earning a living has often been challenging. Yet I had fallen
in love with the area and had grown deep roots here, so I stayed.
Little did I know that I would end up in the right place at the right
time.
As Head of Marketing, I’m excited about the opportunity to help
establish Flexure as a world-class engineering company serving the
aerospace and scientific communities with a strong presence on the
“Space and Energy Coast.”
While there are many outstanding professionals in every field, all
things being equal, the person who’s the best at social dynamics
wins. As Head of Training, I develop and deliver experiential,
interactive programs on how to be a super communicator, leader, sales
person and change agent. We offer these trainings to insure Flexure
engineers are sought after by other scientists and engineers who are
looking for the right people to add critical capabilities to their
teams.
As Head of Flexure Events, I
work with other organizations to co-host
dynamic, interactive in-person and virtual programs designed to bring
together scientists and engineers from previously independent fields to
communicate, cooperate and collaborate. Participants build strong
relationships, learn about what’s new and important in the
different
fields, and explore opportunities to create and implement
‘out-of-the-box’ solutions to previously unsolvable
problems. Organizations with requirements to conduct EPO (Education and
Public
Outreach) programs participate in Flexure Events to fulfill this
commitment, and scientists and engineers from other companies,
government agencies, and educational institutions have the opportunity
to participate in training programs designed to increase
mastery of social dynamics skills.
My eclectic interests, work
experience and education allow me to fulfill these responsibilities. I
am a Certified Master Practitioner of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic
Programming,) a certified yoga teacher, and as a Certified Master
Coach, I have been coaching business owners, entrepreneurs, and
professionals for over 16 years. I got my M.B.A. while working at
Harris Corporation in Continuous Improvement / Total Quality
Management. I earned my M. Ed. in Educational Research and a Bachelors
Degree with a double major in Psychology and Education. I’d been
working with Russell for three years on other projects when he asked me
to join the Flexure team as Flexure’s Head of Training, Events
and Marketing.
